🔬 • #FundamentalObservation (2023) - Bourbon Barrel-Aged Imperial Vanilla Stout • 13% ABV • #FundamentalObservation2023’s original incarnation was honored as 2015's Best New Beer on @beeradvocate. It maintains two entries on @untappd's Top 50 rated beers for the 2016 and 2017 vintages and earned Gold in the Festival of Wood & Barrel-Aged Beers's Specialty Strong/Porter Stout category before going on to win @fobab's 2018's Best In Show.
This "liquid brownie batter" was aged in a blend of Old Fitzgerald, Heaven Hill, Blanton's, and Whistle Pig 10YR bourbon barrels and finished out at a mighty 13% ABV. Each barrel saw multiple additions of Madagascar vanilla beans, ultimately aging the finished batch of beer with hundreds of pounds of vanilla over the course of a year.
Familiar flavors of cookie dough and baking chocolate envelop the palate with hints of brûléed brown sugar, all balanced with beautiful barrel tones and present-but-pleasant alcohol heat.
🥥 • #FOCOCO (2023) - Bourbon Barrel Aged Imperial Vanilla + Coconut Stout - 13% ABV • We pushed eight choice casks of Fundamental Observation through 350lbs of fresh coconut flakes and another 350lbs of hand-toasted coconut flakes to create the incredible second bottling of #FOCOCO. Tropical aromas rise from the glass and melt into a swirling flourish of velvety viscosity on the palate. The coconut addition brings a softness to the 13% ABV, smoothing the experience out into a luxurious lazy river of vanilla and coconut.
☕ • #FOMO+ (2023) - Bourbon Barrel Aged Imperial Vanilla + Panama Geisha Coffee Stout - 13% ABV • Two years later, we're on the receiving end of the FOMO feels when Mostra Mike calls with wildly rare access to the sister lot of Bambito Estate's "Avalanche of Flavor," the Best of Panama-winning, $1,502/lb at auction, Panama Geisha coffee beans. We had to have 'em, and this year's batter-rich Fundamental base was the worthiest of destinations.
Aromas on FOMO+ are unmistakably coffee-rich; sparkling with the celebrated honeysuckle, peach, and bergamot nuances of these extraordinary beans. There's a gentle, balanced acidity to the palate of Panama Geisha coffee, and steeping it on our Madagascar vanilla bean-soaked Imperial Stout opens swirling portals of caramelly nougat, chocolate milkshakes, and whiffs of nutmeg. It's transportive in every way.
